Life on LST 662

1944

April 25:
            Picked up LST 662 at Ambridge, PA.
            Started down Mississippi and Ohio rivers.

April 26:
            Went to Marietta, Ohio.

April 27:
            Went through Huntington, West Virginia
            and Cincinnati, Ohio.

April 28^:
            Passed Jefferson, Indiana.

April 29:
            Passed Evanston & Louisville, Kentucky and
            started on the Mississippi river.

April 30^:
            Passed Memphis, Tennessee.

May 1:
            Passed Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
            Arrived at New Orleans, Louisiana.
            Commissioned same day.

May 10:
            Left New Orleans & entered Gulf of Mexico.

May 11:
            Arrived at Panama City, Florida.

May 17:
            Small boat crews came aboard for duty.

May 18:
            Made our first beaching with ship.

May 25:
            Arrived back at New Orleans, LA.

June 3:
           Left New Orleans and anchored at Pilot Town, LA.

July 6:
            Left the States.

June 14:
            Arrived at Panama Canal.

July 15:
            Arrived at Pearl Harbor at 1800.

August 8:
            Left Pearl Harbor at 0745.

August 16:
            Crossed International Date Line at 1600.

August 23:
            Crossed Equator at 1730.
            Initiated Aug. 23 at 1000.

August 26:  Sat.
            Arrived at Guadalcanal at 0940.

September 4:  Mon.
            Left Guadalcanal at 1040.

 
September 17:  Sun.
            Invaded Anguar on Sun. at 0830.

September 26:
            Left Anguar at 1730.

September 30:  Sat.
            Arrived at Dutch New Guinea at 1000.

November 5:  Sun.
            Left there at 1800.

November 10:
            Arrived at Meneny Bay, New Guinea at 0900.

December 16:  Sat.
            Left there at 1200.

December 21:  Thurs.
            Arrived at Tript, New Guinea at 1130.

December 22:  Fri.
            Left there at 0630.

December 23:  Sat.
            Arrived at Hollandia, New Guinea at 0730.

1945

January 3 1945:
            Left Holandia, New Guinea at 0100.

January 6:
            Arrived at Sansaboy, New Guinea at 1400.
            Left there the same day at 2000.

January 7:
            Arrived back at Hollandia, New Guinea.

January 8:
            Left there at 0600.

January 15:
            Arrived at Leyte at 2000.

January 25:
            Left Leyte.

January 29:
            Invaded Bataan.  (Zambales-San Antonio Beaches)

February 3:
            Arrived back at Leyte at 1000.

February 8:
            Left for Mindota at 1600.

February 12:
            Arrived there at 1245.

February 15:
            Arrived back at Leyte at 1100.

March 25:
            Left Leyte.

April 1:
            Invaded Okinawa on Easter Sunday.

April 4:
            Arrived at Kerama Retto.  Same Day.
            Left Kerama Retto.
            Invaded Ie Shima same day.

Left Ie Shima a few days later and
            made a few trips to Okinawa and back.

April 29:
            Left Kerama Retto.

May 6:
            Arrived at Guam.

June 23:  Sat.
            Left Guam at 1615.

July 1:  Sun.
            Crossed the equator.

July 4:
            Arrived at Guadalcanal.

July 7:
            Left Tulagi at 1300.

July 10:
            Arrived at Espirito Santo.

July 13:
            Left Espitiro Santo.

July 16:
            Arrived at the southern end of 
            “Sun Light Channel” between Pavuvu Island
            and “Banika Island”  Russell Islands”.

July 22:
            Left the New Hebrides Group.

July 28:
            Arrived at Eniwetok.

July 30:
            Left Eniwetok.

August 4:
            Arrived at Guam.  Left there the same day. 

August 5:
            Arrived at Saipan.

August 6:
            Left Saipan.

August 8:
            Arrived back at Guam.
            Got under way for Pearl Harbor.

August 23:
            Arrived at Pearl Harbor.
